Physical Therapy
The mind has a narrative. The body also has a narrative. Sometimes they're very different but they are always, always connected. Sometimes there's a lot more held in the body than the conscious mind is aware of. Leah creates space to listen to both the mind and body, and listen to all the parts of you that exist in this one-of-a-kind mind and body experience. Explored by movement, breath, bodywork, touch and stretching.
Leah's style of physical therapy is a therapeutic technique that targets the physical and emotional stress stored in the body. It's a unique bodywork style that combines several traditional acupressure techniques from different cultures, including Shiatsu, Lomi - Lomi, Thai, and deep tissue massage. This technique aims to help individuals release past traumas and negative emotions, promote relaxation and healing, and achieve optimum physical and mental health. This practice works on the underlying energy system of a person's body, commonly known as the 'prana' or'ai. This also works hand in hand with the myofascial system. This energy system affects every aspect of our physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
Leah includes a holistic approach that covers the whole of the body, from the head to the toes. As a therapist she applies a combination of deep tissue, pressure-point stimulation, and stretching movements to release tension and clear blockages in the energy system. Treatment can potentially provide a long-lasting effect on the body and mind. Some people may experience instant relief from muscular tension, headaches, and other body aches. Others may experience a deeper sense of relaxation, improved sleep, and better digestion.
Leah aims to work with areas of tension using the appropriate level of pressure to help release accumulated stress within the muscles and fascia. Using an instinctive process to identify and work with the holding patterns and muscular knots in the body. By applying the right amount of pressure and techniques, Leah can help release stress and tension from the body's energy system, supporting natural healing processes.
This practice is also known for its ability to enhance emotional and psychological wellbeing. By releasing physical tension, the patient typically experiences stress reduction, which promotes mental clarity and calmness. This, in turn, brings the added benefits of improved decision-making, increased creativity, and better emotional regulation.
During a session, the patient may feel a "therapeutic discomfort" sensation as Leah works through tight muscles and fascia, tension knots and blockages. This sensation is considered essential to the healing process.
In Leah's session she also incorporates breath-work and sound therapy to create a more rounded holistic experience. Breathwork teaches you to breathe deeply (the deeper the breath the deeper the work!) and help soothe your nervous system while sound therapy and vibrational tools uses soothing music or ambient sounds to help patients enter a meditative state.
In conclusion, this treatment is a unique and holistic form of bodywork that targets physical, mental, and emotional stresses stored in the body. It involves a combination of pressure-point stimulation, stretching, and deep tissue techniques, aiming to release stress and tension from the underlying energy system of a patient's body. It's intended to be a deeply relaxing and comforting experience that promotes overall wellbeing.
